MR. GEORGE J. ZACHER, beloved husband of Mrs. Katherine Zacher, of Lethbridge, passed away surrounded by his family, at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the age of 90 years. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Katherine, his five children, Sharon (Leroy) Hammel of Medicine Hat, Gordon (Sandy) Zacher of Lethbridge, Blaine (Luciana) Zacher of Edmonton, Gary (Violet) Zacher of Lethbridge, Tammy (Ed) Asuchak of Airdrie. Grandchildren - Harlan (Tracy) Hammel, Cindy (Craig) Ramsey, Gordon Zacher Jr., Boyd (Bonnie) Zacher, Lisa (Cory) Holts, Michael (Angela) Zacher, Melanie Asuchak, Chanse Asuchak, Addison Asuchak. Great grandchildren - Shelbi & Tyson Ramsey, Rylan & Daxon Hammel, Jaralyn Zacher, Joel, Aiden & Ainsley Zacher, Cortlan Holts, Gavyn & Brody Asuchak. He will also be remembered by a brother Joe, and sisters Catherine Bernhardt, Rose Fettig, and Elizabeth Krassman George was predeceased by a son in law LeRoy Hammel and brothers Milton, John, Peter, Martin, Wendel, and sisters Irene Schatz, and Jennie Roth.. George was born in Medicine Hat on August 3, 1920. In 1941, he was called into the Army & took his basic training in Camrose, Alberta. He was posted in different places - Camrose, Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, Val Cartier, Quebec; 1943, he was stationed in S11 Canadian Chemical Warfare School in R.C.A.S.C. as a Jeep Driver & Convoy Leader. In 1943, he married Katherine Koenig from Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. In 1945, George was discharged from the Army & then moved with his wife onto their newly purchased farm east of Winifred. They farmed there until 1962, then sold the farm and moved to Medicine Hat . The whole family eventually moved to Red Deer, where George worked for 14 years. After his retirement, George & Katherine moved to Lethbridge on September 18, 1992, where George lived until his passing. A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 11 AM, with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery with pallbearers; Harlan Hammel, Gordon Zacher Jr., Boyd Zacher, Michael Zacher, Chanse Asuchak & Addison Asuchak. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Lung Association, Box 4500, T6E 6K2, Edmonton, Alberta.
